Love like a tree

My love is like a tree,

With many branches,

And many leaves.

It'll give you shelter,

And give you shade.

It'll invite the birds to sing for you,

And colour the ground in the fall.

You can carve our names on its bark,

You can lean on it as you ponder.

But abandon or neglect it,

You will kill it, if that's what you want.

But know this.

It will teeter a while, before it departs.

And when it does, it'll crush you.

With the weight of all its dead leaves, dead branches and dead trunk.
